London Day 1

Today we left Latvia and came to London. We took a cab to the Riga airport. We both thought we would die on the way there; our cab driver was nuts, but he got us there in record time. Our flight was okay, no problems, but it wasn’t great. I don't recommend Ryan Air. They are the Nazis of airplane companies. "You are allowed one carry one and strictly one carry one only! It can weigh no more than 8 kilos!!!" Not to mention there are no seat assignments, so everyone bunches up like a herd of cows to make their mad dash to the plane so they can sit by each other. Your seats don't recline, no magazines, no complimentary beverages, no movies, and you are barraged with advertisements made by a flight attendant who barely speaks English. What a mess. Never again. I'd rather pay more for convenience and organization.
(Here is a cool statue at Piccadilly Circus.)

London made us realize how little Riga, and especially Salt Lake City, are. London is HUGE!!! (And we thought we were "city people." We had no idea what a city was ...) We rode the “tube” (underground train) to our hotel. We stayed at a Marriott, which is a nice change from the old dome hotel we stayed at in Riga. Don’t get me wrong, our Riga hotel was nice, but not as nice as a Marriot. After we dropped off our luggage we went to Piccadilly Circus and walked around. It was so crowded and insane. It would be easy to get lost, but luckily we did okay. We quickly learned that everything is really expensive in London. We ended up eating at an Indian restaurant, which I didn’t think was great and it was a total rip off. But, what can you do? We came home and went to bed. It was a long day of travelling …

And just to prove that our hotel is nice, here are some of the famous people who have stayed here:

Isn't that hilarious? They have a wall of these signed photos of all the famous people who've stayed. Love it.
